What's Fan Tan?

Fan Tan is a older card gamewhere players try to become the first ever to lose all their cards without picking up cards from the discard pile. The four sevens are generally the only cards which can be lost at all; after the seven in a suit is accepted, both & eight could subsequently be played, followed with the A (non and K (exceptionally high), and finally, after this, the tenth & final Dig it may be used. The player with the most counters at the end of the game wins.

This very simple game was popular with Chinese emperors and nobility throughout the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The reason the sevens were selected is as it enabled them to mark off their wealth from adding to or removing from their card holdings. They believed that the card with sevens are their most valuable. Some went so far as to compose their whole fortune onto the card.

One player will discard three cards from their own hands. Then one other player could draw out of the cover of the deck, choosing three cards from the discard pile. The first player will then deal five cards out for their four players. The different player currently has to arrange the drop pile in exactly the same order as the original deck, with their Fan Tan pick, so that each player has at least three cards to play with.
